Unggoy c.3239

The Grunts have always been the punching bags of the universe. The Covenant picked up these lowly creatures around 2142 and forced them to be the cannon fodder for their infantry units. They are squat, slow, timid, and above all, the only Covenant race that cannot live in an oxygenated atmosphere without a life support system. This made them a burden on the Covenant, and those higher up the totem pole made sure the little guys knew it.

After the Covenant was broken up in 2553, the Grunts were free to go about their own business without fear of being oppressed. It took a bit of time, but they made an appearance on the interstellar stage. Since the Grunts had been forced to study Humanity for nearly thirty years so that they could intercept messages, the Grunts were the most educated on their habits, languages, and even their television shows! They were one of the first races to exist peacefully alongside Humanity, and over the centuries, the hard feelings washed away.

The Unggoy here are presented in the 33rd Century where my stories take place. They are a bit more flexible, have wider harness choices that can focus on personal style as well as comfort. They are seen all throughout Known Space and can exist pretty much anywhere. The Grunt at center is wearing a Human-manufactured Methane unit as evidenced by the CH4 on the tank, not to mention the fact that he's actually wearing pants means that this individual has Human values instilled in him.

I wanted to take a crack at doing some Grunts, so I decided to do it. This is based on the Halo 4 design, so this is totally up to date. Let's make one thing clear, these little guys may seem cute, but they aren't, and I kind of wanted to enforce that with the eye and mouth shot. I also noticed that not very many people had drawn an Unggoy completely without their protective armor, so I decided to do that in the upper right corner. I also decided to create a female Grunt, and there she is in the lower left hand side. I've decided that a female Unggoy in my universe at least because this is totally subject to change when we deal with canon, will have the scaly or plate formation on their forehead that sets them apart from the males since not clear indication is given on what a female Grunt looks like.

Not very often are the Unggoy mentioned in the Mobius Chronicles, but I will make an effort to include them more, especially in Sally's Journal, so keep tuned in for that!
